Restoring the Heart of Greenwich
Our StoryHave you heard of the Mowry Park Gazebo Beautification Project? The Village of Greenwich has approved a committee of residents to undertake improvements and enhancements to our beloved gazebo and Mowry Park.
The committee has already completed several initial improvements, including painting and the removal of the lattice structure. Many of your neighbors are actively involved in this exciting community project, and now we are reaching out to ask for your support as well.
The committee has formalized a comprehensive improvement plan for the gazebo and the entire 0.5-acre Mowry Park. Planned upgrades include restoring the gazebo with new decking, reconfiguring support beams, replacing the roofing material, adding new steps, and improving lighting and sound systems. The new design is based on the historic architecture of the surrounding area. Additional park upgrades include sidewalks, streetscape lighting, benches, picnic tables, landscaping, tree trimming and planting.
These improvements will allow the gazebo and park to serve as a central community hub for concerts, lectures, student celebrations, and community gatherings.
This project is supported through private donations and a NY Forward grant application that could unlock $248,000 in additional funding. To support this effort, community volunteers formed a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, Friends of the Parks of the Village of Greenwich, New York, with a goal of raising $27,500.
Can we count on your support? Please consider making a tax-deductible donation using this form.
Thank you for your generosity and commitment to our community.
Sincerely,
Gazebo Beautification Project Committee Members:
Ken Facin, Audrey Fischer, Mitch Throop, Lynne Weygint, Lisa Perkins and Andrew Doonan
